Konrad Curze

 Konrad Curze is my least favorite of all the primarchs, and this the 5^th piece in the Primarch series I’m working on. Here he is on the peaceful planet Ultramar running rampant creating chaos. I took a break from Xenofera yesterday and drew this guy up. I’m hoping I can get him all colored and ready to go by Naka-Kon which is less than 2 weeks away.

Ralph Mcquarrie: Complete Collection of Star Wars Art

 

I wanted to try something different and do a quick review of a new book I just picked up, it was so cool I wanted to let others know about it. 

Ralph Mcquarrie,  Star Wars Art is a book that compiles over a decade of artwork that shaped the look of  the Star wars franchise. Not only does the book cover Macquarie’s vast portfolio of concept art and paintings, but it also walk’s through his work process, thoughts on creativity, and materials.

I own quite a few art books and I have to say that this is one of the most gorgeous jam-packed with art I have seen. It helps too that it’s actually a dual set of books each 400 pages, so it takes a while to go through it all. Some pages contain storyboards, and character and ship concept art evolution and others are panoramic spreads of massive matte paintings used in production. Its really great to see in detail how almost every
visual aspect of Star Wars was brought
to life by the vision of Mcquarrie.

This is easily one of the favorite books I own, up there with the complete works of John Singer Sergeant, The Portraits of Rembrandt  and the sketchbook of Frank Lloyd Wrght. The only downsides are that its heavy, around 20lbs and its super expensive it goes for around $170. I would imagine though if this ever goes out of print it could become a collectors item.

Orks

Here are some Orks from the Warhammer 40k Conquest card game from Fantasy Flight Games. I'm sad that Games Workshop pulled the License for this product, but I had a blast working on it while it lasted. It was always one of my dreams to work on Warhammer 40k one of my favorite games.From Clockwise from Top left:One of Zogwarts runthearders cracking the whip, driving the gretchin into the enemy guns, with a stompa in the background. 2017 Xenofera Art Progress Update

Its been a while since I last posted anything, on Xenofera, I got so wrapped up in getting the art done I’ve kind of procrastinated with updates. I think in total there are around 120 separate illustrations for the game, plus layout, Icons and typography. It’s been quite the learning experience and took a very focused work ethic, and I think I’ve had 2 days off in the last 3 months but I’m excited to see the finished results.

Above are some of the crew members that help you on your expedition, I’m trying to keep a fun, retro 50s science fiction vibe to it.

I’ve managed to get all the creatures done in the end we ended up with a total 52 species of Xenofera, from 6 different planets.  Below are two of the larger carnivores the Nymphadrax and a Cerabus in their natural habitat.

Here are 2 of the 12 Huntsmen that can lead your expedition, they are all unique and each have their own play style. Thanks for checking this out, I’ll try not to wait so long until the next update.

Battletech:Warhammer/ Xenofera Kickstarter

 In the suburban outskirts of an industrial city world two merchandised titans go toe to toe, as the battle rages in the distance.  In the foreground the Merc warhammer makes quick work of the lightly armored grasshopper as it desperately weaves between modular domiciles. This was done about a year ago and the medium was digital.

To the left you  will witness the hairless sheep in the Undulating Mountains of Prairie, which serve as a refuge from the pursuits of the vicious cownivore. To the right this is a wandering pink faerie   armidillo scouring the vast lava bed wastes on the toxic planet of Barren.
These are just a few of the creatures you may come across and be able to capture for your space zoo in the in the game Xenofera.  Below is a chart of some of the bonus creatures that backers can vote on to include in the Xenofera starter box set. However if we can get the project funded by Thursday, you won't have to vote because they will all be included!  

Xenofera Kickstarter Launch October 4th

Xenofera is a strategic card game where players must recruit a crew, build cages and then use their crew and cages to capture alien creatures (Xenofera).  The player with the most valuable collection of Xenofera at the end of the game wins. But keeping the creatures you’ve caught is not easy.  Other players can sabotage your expedition by stealing your cages and creatures or enticing away your crew members.  You may need to battle them to keep what you’ve worked so hard to obtain.
Xenofera can support from 2 to 5 players with an average play time of 30 to 75 mins, roughly 15 mins per player.

Gencon 2016 Play Testing

I’ve been slacking on keeping the blog updated, I’ve been getting ready for Gencon partially because of the new card game Xenofera, but mostly because I’ve been sharpening up my X-wing skills.

Xenofera is a dynamic 2-5-person card game where players compete to see who can collect the most exotic cosmic zoo. Players must recruit an expedition team; acquire the gear needed for a galactic safari, then set out for the wildest hunt in the galaxy.

Xenofera will be going live on Kick Starter at the end of September, more details will be coming soon…..
