Still Life, Figure Sketches

This is my first in a series of daily exercises I plan on doing over this upcoming christmas break. This one was a still life done in oil for a period of 2 hours. I Tried a limited pallet using Yellow ocher, burnt sienna, burnt umber, titanium white, ivory black, a small amount of cadmium red, and yellow.

The drawings below are more sketches from the Society of Illustrators New York figure drawing.

  1. These are sweet man- what a great still life. I've gotta bust out my old paints...

  2. Thanks Aja, I was kind of worried that I was drawing too much information from my head in my illustrations. So I thought going back to observation paintings as a daily routine might help out. My goal is to do at least one a day over Christmas break.
