Tiny Little Head Studies

I decided to take a break from still life's and paint some tiny little heads. I am doing this Illustration with hundreds of figures so I wanted to get in some practice with heads. This was a really good assignment for me, I tried to focus on blocking in the features in the first minute or two. Measuring negative space and shapes was a key tool for this one (I guess teaching that Drawing 1 class wasn't a total waste). I did this in gouache and it took about 3 hours or so for them all, but I lost track of time due to watching C-span.

  1. Hundreds....wow. haha! Way to make us all look bad. I struggle to reach half a dozen characters and make them work!

Your heads look great, and your value structure is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I adore these head studies Jeff! Great lighting and from!

  3. Thanks Mike and Shannon, I really appreciate all the support during this little experiment! I really think they are helping, I'm learning a lot.
