Latest Plein Aire

This is a quick little master study I did of one of Maxfield Parrish's landscapes/Illustrations. His color usage reminds me of the psychedelic fantasy illustration done during the 1960s. I think it has something to do with with his complementary shadow colors.

This is small painting I did on the UCM farm of some distant rolling hills I wanted to try and capture the roundness of the hills hopefully I did this.

This is a larger version of the above painting.

More Draw-a-Thon

Here are some more images from Draw-a-thon. These are all pastel, I actually think I learned quite a bit in this years draw-a-thon, maybe draw-a-thon isn't all that bad.

The UCM farm

These are some studies I did out at the UCM farm, this was probably my most favorite spot we have painted this far in our class. I tried to keep all these really small in size and quick.

Here are some of many images from Draw-A-Thon

This is one I did on Tuesday Night drawing.
This is a landscape I did from my Colorado trip, It was a giant rocky gorge in the middle of the mountains south of pikes peak. I would of liked to have done an on location painting but it was getting ready to rain.

Plein Air Week 5

This week I focused more on architecture, the first one I did was this gorgeous old rundown Victorian house a little north west of downtown Warrensburg.

This is a painting I attempted of the courthouse in downtown Warrensburg. I think one of the successes of this painting was how I laid down color in a broad manner in the beginning and not really being to concerned with the detail. But when I took it indoors to touch it up I think I tightened up the rendering and ruined it. One success I've hac this semester is limiting my self on time I'm trying to keep these between 1 to 2 hours.

7 falls Colorado

This is a landscape I did from reference taken from 7 falls in colorado springs. It is a canyon in the mountains, lined with lots of sharp rocks.

This is the first painting I did on location outside of Denver in the foothills of the Rocky mountains it took approximately an hour.

This is the second painting I did in denver it is 360 degrees from the first one, it also took an hour.

This is a small plateau right off of I-70 in a suburb outside of Denver called Golden. It was done on location in about an hour.

Fall 09 Plein Air

This is the final painting I did at cave hollow, it was a really neat scene I don't think I did it Justice.

This is my first painting in cave hollow, it isn't a real good design.

This is the first painting I did this semester, I was off to a rough start!

Album Art

These are some recent images that I did for album art for a band out of St. Louis. The Full color image was done in oil on illustration board. I then photographed it and tried to desaturate color in areas of lesser interest to help establish a focal point.

This is one below was done in water color on arches paper. I kept everything monochromatic except for the sky. The idea was to do a before and after image of the man using the phone and then a scene after the man had taken off to avoid his pursuers. the way I did this was to do a full panoramic image of the scene then separately paint images of all the different elements (man, car, dust). then i scaned them into photoshop and assembled the elements on top of one another using the multiply command.
